Plums, Under Cover

Kasper Bosmans

February 1 – March 23, 2024

Kasper Bosmans presents his first solo exhibition in Paris at Mendes Wood DM, entitled Plums, Under Cover (1 February – 23 March).

The Belgian artist embarks on a journey full of fantasy, taking as his starting point his discovery of a 16th-century Belvedere, located in the Royal Garden of Prague Castle in the Czech Republic, which later became the self-exile of Emperor Rudolf II, a queer leader convicted and stripped of his power. Through these architectural and agricultural settings, Bosmans imagines stories that transgress time: lovers who cross paths in the cherry trees of medieval towns, peaks that double as time travellers and cuckoos that chirp about sexual awakening. On the two floors of our Place des Vosges gallery, visitors will discover sculptures, drawings, playful installations and an immersive forest room that the artist describes as a self-portrait of himself, a man of the woods (Bos-man in Dutch).
