A deep dive into the Maison des Femmes in Saint-Denis, a unique centre providing support for women in distress or victims of violence.

“Des femmes dans une maison” (Women in a house) was born from the encounter of two women with other women. A French language workshop at the Maison des Femmes in Saint-Denis, founded by Dr Ghada Hatem to support women who are victims of violence. Two volunteers: journalist Hélène Altmann, who taught French there for four years, and photographer Sophie Deiss. Together, they are committed to making visible women who are usually unseen, and to telling — through words and images — lives that are those of heroines.
